Pastoral Reading

Psalm 5
Give ear to my words, O Lord;

    consider my groaning.
Give attention to the sound of my cry,
    my King and my God,
    for to you do I pray.
O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;
    in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.

For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
    evil may not dwell with you.
The boastful shall not stand before your eyes;
    you hate all evildoers.
You destroy those who speak lies;
    the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
    will enter your house.
I will bow down toward your holy temple
    in the fear of you.
Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness
    because of my enemies;
    make your way straight before me.

For there is no truth in their mouth;
    their inmost self is destruction;
their throat is an open grave;
    they flatter with their tongue.
10 Make them bear their guilt, O God;
    let them fall by their own counsels;
because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out,
    for they have rebelled against you.

11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
    let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
    that those who love your name may exult in you.
12 For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
    you cover him with favor as with a shield.

Congregational Hymns
Jesus Christ Our Sure Foundation (Trinity Hymnal #354)
1 Jesus Christ, our sure foundation,

he whose purpose stays the same,
building for himself a nation,
giving those he calls his name.
Praise we now and every more, Jesus we adore!
God has given to us salvation,
Jesus Christ has borne our blame.

2 Shepherd, Guardin, he who teaches,
on whose grace the church depends,
tending it through history’s reaches,
and will keep it to the end.
Praise we now and evermore,
Jesus we adore!
He who from the first did seek us,
Savior, Ruler, Guide, and Friend.

3 Jesus, come, your kingdom bringing,
how we long to see its sight!
Every saint, Christ’s praises singing,
stands before th’eternal Light,
Praise we now and evermore,
Jesus we adore!
Exaltation ever ringing,
Christ, our King, return in might.

All Who With Heart Confiding
(Psalter Hymnal #267)

1 All who, with heart confiding,
depend on God alone,
like Zion’s mount abiding,
shall ne’er be overthrown.
Like Zion’s city, bounded
by guarding mountains broad,
his people are surrounded
forever by their God.

2 No scepter of oppression
shall hold unbroken sway,
lest unto base transgression
the righteous turn away.
Your favor be imparted
to godly people, LORD;
bless all that are pure-hearted,
the good with good reward.

3 The men who falsehood cherish,
forsaking truth and right,
with wicked ones shall perish;
God will their sin requite.
From sin your saints defending,
their joy, O LORD, increase,
with mercy never-ending
and everlasting peace.

Closing Hymn
Everything by William K Brehm

What will it cost me to follow the Lord?
What is the price of a life that’s restored?
If I am willing to walk in His way,
What is the price I must pay?
Everything!, Everything!
All that I own,
Everything! Everything!
All that I am,
Everything! Everything!
All that I love,
That is the price I must pay,
That is the price I must pay.
