This World is not Our Real Home

Joh 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Php 3:20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

It is a mistake to expect real, full joy, contentment and peace in this present life.  In this world. If you are a Christian, you are not yet home. You are an “alien and stranger” here. This world does not understand you, it does not want you, and in fact, as the Lord Jesus warned us – this world hates you.

It is a good thing to desire justice. To pray for vindication when we are wronged. But until the Day when Christ comes, justice and vindication in this life are only going to be imperfect and partial. And this is why the Lord tells us:

Col 3:1-3 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. (2) Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. (3) For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Of course we love our children. We want to protect them. We want to be free of the wicked who oppress us. In this world we do battle to the extent that we can toward these things. But we must never make the error of thinking that what is here and now is everything. Faith sees the unseen. Faith sees the eternal. You see this here in Paul’s words to Timothy:

2Ti 4:14 Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.

The Lord will repay him. Paul did not look for perfect justice – or perhaps any justice – in this life. Alexander may have appeared to have gotten away with his wickedness. But Paul knew better. The Lord will repay him. Centuries ago, when he passed out of this life, Alexander found that out. And when Christ comes the entire world will see him stand condemned and sentence passed.

Our real home is Christ. Now in part and on that Day in fullness. That is where we will finally find joy, contentment, and peace. Forever.

Psa 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
