The Lord’s Promises to His Own

Psa 21:8-13 Your hand will find out all your enemies; your right hand will find out those who hate you. (9) You will make them as a blazing oven when you appear. The LORD will swallow them up in his wrath, and fire will consume them. (10) You will destroy their descendants from the earth, and their offspring from among the children of man. (11) Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief, they will not succeed. (12) For you will put them to flight; you will aim at their faces with your bows. (13) Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.

Although words like this are rarely heard today, even by people who claim to know Christ, the truth is that the Bible makes promises like this quite often. “….they will not succeed, for you will put them to flight; you will aim at their faces with your bows.” You have God shooting His arrow in the 64th Psalm as well –

Psa 64:7-8 But God shoots his arrow at them; they are wounded suddenly. (8) They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them; all who see them will wag their heads.

People who are oppressed by the wicked find great comfort in these divine and certain promises. Vindication, justice…such things are powerful and healing to the downcast. Yet they are words which are typically suppressed today in the name of “love, mercy, forgiveness…” – which in today’s religious climate are distorted into something the Bible knows nothing of.

Your oppressor will be brought to ruin. God will one day let fly His deadly arrow which cannot miss. The wicked man/woman will experience, as it has been put, “the boomerang effect of the evil tongue” as his own evil verbal arrows turn right around and pierce him.

WE do not “swallow them up in our wrath and make fire consume them.” Vengeance belongs to the Lord and it is a great mistake and sin to be a person who seeks revenge, always looking for ways to even the score. If we go that route we will become the wicked man ourselves because evil will overcome us. Nevertheless, it is a great relief and joy to know that the Day of the Lord’s perfect justice is coming, and not even the devil himself can stop it.

  1. “Be exalted, O Lord, in Your Strength! We will sing 🗣🎶 and praise 🙌🏽 Your power.”

Pastor, you are so right that these many verses throughout the Bible that promise the Lord’s perfect vengeance and justice are a balm to my injured soul. They make it easier to release the hurts to Him and leave all vengeance to my God Who always has my back! And therefore I can walk in the freedom Jesus died to give me. Even the physical and mental repercussions of the abuses by the wicked will be soothed overcome by the Presence of Jesus with me at all times. Satan’s plans to destroy me using his human allies with evil spirits is foiled!!

Thank you, Pastor, for these vital, uplifting reminders!

  2. “For after all it is only right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us, when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God, and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These people will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes to be glorified among His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—because our testimony to you was believed.” 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10
