Ishmael is Still Mocking Isaac

Gal 4:29-31 But just as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now. (30) But what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.” (31) So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.

Commenting on these words of the Apostle Paul to the Galatians, John Calvin wrote:

At this point, Paul says, ‘But as then he that was born after the
flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.’
Thus, it is inevitable that we will be so treated. Hypocrites and liars,
illegitimate children who have defiled the truth and cut themselves
off from it, will gloat over us. They will exalt themselves against us,
as if we were unworthy even to kiss their feet. They will rise up
proudly and persecute us.

But Paul is teaching us to be faithful, and not to allow our faith to be shaken by their arrogance; nor are we to be deceived by the cunning of such hypocrites and traitors, who have
twisted the Word of God. For in the end, it will be for them as it was
for those of the house of Abraham: ‘Cast out the bondwoman and her
son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of
the freewoman.’ All such, though they claim to be believers, and wish
to be considered part of God’s family, will be cut off as rotten
branches, and will have no part nor lot in the inheritance.

There is an excellent message here which ought to be most
useful to us, and which confirms that to which I have alluded: and
that is, that we are not to be dazzled by the splendour of this world,
nor transported with amazement when we see displays of great
magnificence. If we were to believe all that we saw with our eyes, the
Pope upon his throne, with all his sparkling garments and their
trimmings, would seem an idol to be worshipped.

I have no doubt that one of the chief reasons Christian spouses are abused and persecuted by their RASN husband or wife, is because Ishmael is still persecuting Isaac. That is to say, counterfeit “christians” mock and persecute the true children of the promise. Now, we are instructed and commanded by the Lord to put these Ishmael’s out of the church when we discover them among us. But what is typically happening today with the widespread “God loves everyone” lie is that these enemies of Christ are not cast out. And thus the true child of God suffers.

How do we identify the true children of the Lord and how do we recognize an Ishmaelite? Well, Ishmaelites mock real believers. They mock the real gospel. They persecute the children of Abraham. And this persecution is going on right now within most churches, but it is written off as “well, we are just all sinners.” And thus the commandment of the Lord is disregarded.
