Free Gift that Costs All (Pt 5)

The people of Nazareth, Jesus' hometown, were unwilling to pay the price of receiving Christ. The cost required was a confession that they were sinners just like everyone else and that this son of Joseph they thought they knew was in fact the Messiah.

Speak O Lord

Verse 1
Speak O Lord as we come to You
To receive the food of Your holy word
Take Your truth plant it deep in us
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith
Speak O Lord and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory

Verse 2
Teach us Lord full obedience
Holy reverence true humility
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity
Cause our faith to rise
Cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority
Words of power that can never fail
Let their truth prevail over unbelief

Verse 3
Speak O Lord and renew our minds
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises
And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us
Speak O Lord till Your church is built
And the earth is filled with Your glory

Psalm 43

Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause
against an ungodly people,
from the deceitful and unjust man
deliver me!
2 For you are the God in whom I take refuge;
why have you rejected me?
Why do I go about mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?
3 Send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwelling!
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God my exceeding joy,
and I will praise you with the lyre,
O God, my God.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.

Opening Hymn

We Come O Christ to You (TH #181)

1 We come, O Christ, to you,
true Son of God and man,
by whom all things consist,
in whom all life began.
In you alone we live and move
and have our being in your love.

2 You are the way to God,
your blood our ransom paid;
in you we face our Judge
and Maker unafraid.
Before the throne absolved we stand;
your love has met your law’s demand.

3 You are the living truth;
all wisdom dwells in you,
the source of every skill,
the one eternal True!
O great I AM! in you we rest,
sure answer to our every quest.

4 You only are true life
to know you is to live
the more abundant life
that earth can never give.
O risen Lord! we live in you:
in us each day your life renew!

5 We worship you, Lord Christ,
our Savior and our King;
to you our youth and strength
adoringly we bring:
so fill our hearts that all may view
your life in us and turn to you!

God’s Amazing Word (CRC #10)

When evil thrives in earth’s last days
and people boast of brutal ways,
when even churches in that hour retain the form,
but lose God’s pow’r,
Hold fast to everything you’ve learned,
the Word which sinful men have spurned.

The Bible has commanding worth
to do God’s saving works on earth;
it draws our souls from death to life
and rescues us from needless strife:
Amazing gift, on earth so odd,
the life imparting Word of God.

The Bible teaches us God’s will
in circumstances good and ill;
God’s Word uncovers sin’s disguise;
obeying it will make one wise.
It trains the saint to hear Christ’s voice,
to trust in him, repent, rejoice.

God’s Word is good for gold gain,
to teach, rebuke, correct and train;
equipped by him we can pursue
the work God has for us to do.
God’s Word is all the Christian needs
to grow in grace and do good deeds.

God’s Word was written to be read,
to be our life and daily bread,
to guide our thoughts throughout the night
and lead us forth by morning’s light.
So let us read, mark, learn, digest God’s Word
which gives us heaven’s best.

Closing Hymn

My Sheep Know My Voice (CRC #15)

Chorus
My sheep know My voice
And day by day
They abide in the fold
And go not astray
They love Me because
I have made them My choice
And they follow My call
For My sheep know My voice

Verse 1
My sheep know My voice
And the path that I take
They follow wherever I go
My sheep know My voice
And come at My call
But a stranger’s voice
Do they not know

Verse 2
My sheep know My voice
And the pastures of green
Where I lead them so often to feed
My sheep know My voice
And the cool sparkling stream
Where beside its still waters I lead

Verse 3
My sheep know My voice
And the valley of death
Through which I shall lead them someday
But no danger nor harm
Can touch one of them
For I will be with them always
