Pastoral Reading

Psalm 104:24-35

O Lord, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom have you made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
25 Here is the sea, great and wide,
which teems with creatures innumerable,
living things both small and great.
26 There go the ships,
and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it.
27 These all look to you,
to give them their food in due season.
28 When you give it to them, they gather it up;
when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
29 When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
when you take away their breath, they die
and return to their dust.
30 When you send forth your Spirit, they are created,
and you renew the face of the ground.
31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
may the Lord rejoice in his works,
32 who looks on the earth and it trembles,
who touches the mountains and they smoke!
33 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
for I rejoice in the Lord.
35 Let sinners be consumed from the earth,
and let the wicked be no more!
Bless the Lord, O my soul!
Praise the Lord!

Opening Song

O Church Arise (CRC #25)

Verse 1
O church arise and put your armour on, hear the call of Christ our Captain;
For now the weak can say that they are strong, in the strength that God has given.
With shield of faith and belt of truth we’ll stand against the devil’s lies;
An army bold whose battle cry is Love, reaching out to those in darkness.
Verse 2
Our call to war to love the captive soul but to rage against the captor;
And with the sword that makes the wounded whole we will fight with faith and valour.
When faced with trials on every side; we know the outcome is secure;
And Christ will have the prize for which He died, an inheritance of nations.
Verse 3
Come see the cross where love and mercy meet as the Son of God is stricken.
Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet for the Conqueror has risen.
And as the stone is rolled away, and Christ emerges from the grave,
This victory march continues till the day every eye and heart shall see Him.
Verse 4
So Spirit come put strength in every stride, give grace for every hurdle.
That we may run with faith to win the prize of a servant good and faithful.
As saints of old still line the way retelling triumphs of His grace,
We hear their calls and hunger for the day, when with Christ we stand in glory.

Song

It Was Finished CRC #37

Verse 1

How I love the voice of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary
He declares his work is finished He has spoken this hope to me
Though the sun had ceased its shining though the war appeared as lost
Christ had triumphed over evil it was finished upon that Cross

Verse 2

Now the curse it has been broken Jesus paid the price for me
Full the pardon He has offered great the welcome that I receive
Boldly I approach my Father clothed in Jesus’ righteousness
There is no more guilt to carry it was finished upon that Cross

Verse 3

Death was once my great opponent fear once had a hold on me
But the Son who died to save us rose that we would be free indeed
Yes He rose that we would be free indeed free from ev’ry plan of darkness
Free to live and free to love death is dead and Christ is risen
It was finished upon that Cross

Ending

Onward to eternal glory
To my Saviour and my God
I rejoice in Jesus’ victory
It was finished upon that Cross
It was finished upon that Cross
It was finished upon that Cross

Jesus Thank You CRC #20

Verse 1
The myst’ry of the cross I cannot comprehend
The agonies of Calvary
You the perfect Holy One crushed Your Son
Who drank the bitter cup reserved for me

Chorus
Your blood has washed away my sin
Jesus thank You
The Father’s wrath completely satisfied
Jesus thank You
Once Your enemy now seated at Your table
Jesus thank You

Verse 2
By Your perfect sacrifice I’ve been brought near
Your enemy You’ve made Your friend
Pouring out the riches of Your glorious grace
Your mercy and Your kindness know no end

The Lord’s Table

Christ Our Righteousness

Scripture Reading

Ephesians 4:1-16

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore it says,

“When he ascended on high he led a host of captives,
and he gave gifts to men.”
9 (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? 10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Preaching the Word

When is Separation Right and When is it Wrong?

1 Cor 1:10-17

I appeal to you, brothers,[a] by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. 11 For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. 12 What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,15 so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Closing Song

Give Praise to God (CRC #44)

1 Give praise to God who reigns above
for perfect knowledge, wisdom, love;
His judgments are divine, devout,
His paths beyond all tracing out.

Refrain
Come, lift our voice to heav’n’s high throne,
and glory give to God alone!

2 No one can counsel God all-wise
or truths unveil to His sharp eyes;
He marks our paths behind, before;
He is our steadfast Counselor. [Refrain]

3 Nothing exists that God might need,
for all things good from Him proceed.
We praise Him as our Lord, and yet
we never place God in our debt. [Refrain]

4 Creation, life, salvation too,
and all things else both good and true,
come from and through our God always,
and fill our hearts with grateful praise. [Refrain]
